Fondazione Museo del Tessuto di Prato is the largest center in Italy dedicated to the study, conservation, and promotion of historic and contemporary textiles. Established in 2003 through the initiative of the Municipality of Prato, the Province of Prato, and the Prato Chamber of Commerce, it is a non-profit institution that manages the Museo del Tessuto with a strong cultural mission and an international outlook.
The Museum is housed in a truly exceptional location: the former Campolmi textile factory, a remarkable example of industrial archaeology set in the heart of Prato’s historic center, within the ancient medieval city walls. A place where past and future meet, preserving the legacy of textile production while embracing innovation.
Through exhibitions, educational programs, conferences, and research projects, the Museum promotes textile heritage as a source of knowledge, inspiration, and cultural identity. Its commitment also extends to the digital sphere: for years, the Fondazione Museo del Tessuto has taken part in European projects that connect culture and innovation, working within international networks of museums, archives, universities, design schools, and research centers to catalogue, digitize, and interpret Europe’s textile and fashion collections.
